and come up north. We have cherries!
You should probably know about the camp
Betsie River Campsite is located right inside the Betsie River State Game Refuge. It is a 100 site campground in the heart of everything northern Michigan has to offer. We are less than 3 miles from the beach and make a great base-camp for all your awesome local fun! Our sites have room for about 4 adults, their camper or tent, a boat, a dog or two and a few kiddos :D We are not a big concrete pad RV park, we are a nice small family owned campsite, if you are looking for a discotheque from the late 70's we aren't your place.
So what is nearby?
Sandy beaches you can walk or ride a bike to, yummers restaurants, Wineries (we like St.Ambrosia), Breweries, Distilleries, Crystal Mountain, Betsie Valley Bike Trail, an Alpaca Farm, Traverse City, Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, Manitou Islands, Cherry Bowl Drive-in movie theater, Glen Arbor, Crystal Lake, Michigan Lake, kayaking, tubing, hiking, oh yea and fishing! So much stuff. You can stay busy here for a long time.
If you like to fish, this is the place to be! World class salmon, perch and trout. There is fishing off the pier in Elberta or with a charter, as well as small lake fishing on Crystal, Platte, or Upper/Lower Herring Lake, We are an old fishing camp, and the fishing is just a few miles down the road. River fishing is close on the Platte or the Betsie, but to be clear the river is not accessible directly from the camp! There is easy access to a marina, room for boats on the sites, and a fish cleaning station. When you are done fishing come back to camp for nice warm showers, a sweet campfire and some s'mores!

We want to have a rocking party?!?!?!?!
Betsie River Campground is a quiet chill out kind of campground! Rockin' parties are best suited at a rockin' partying kind of campground!
Can we camp right on the Betsie River?!
Our camp is located in the Betsie River State Game Refuge. The river is accessed by walking down the bike path or driving to local launches. To be double clear we dont have access to the river from the site!
So why are you called Betsie River campsite?
Well we didn't name it! We are right in the middle of the refuge, and its been here for 60 years! We cant just go renaming it for no reason!
How many folks can we have on a site?
4 , if you need to have more, get another site! you can add a fifth person for $5 a night. If you have real young kiddos thats alright!
Why can we only have 4 on a site?
Its because we work really hard for this to be a quiet fun base camp and not a rave in Berlin. Believe us the limits per site make the whole place much better! Some exceptions can be made (kiddos 3 and under are fine for example) so give us a call and we will figure it out.
How far from the beach?
3 miles from Elberta Beach, 2.5 Miles from Frankfort Beach, both are fantastic! Frankfort beach is accessible by bike, or even a walk if you are up for it!
When do you open/close for the season?
We open when the ground thaws and we can turn the water on! It is the reverse for closing, once we have to shut the water off we shut down the camp!
So you are open in the spring or fall?!
Yes! To be completely honest it is the absolute best time to come, everything isnt as busy, its beautiful, and cheaper! Give us a call!
Do you have sewer hookup 20/30/50 amp?
We don't have 50 amp! But we can recommend a few places that have great owners that are real close, Check out Frankfort Crystal Lake RV Resort!! We do have a dump station and limited 30 amp. Our 20 amp will maybe support an air conditioner but not much more! Our camp is what it is, an old fishing camp, powering tesla coils and particle accelerators is not our bag!
Are there great places to eat nearby?
So many! Frankfort and Elberta both have great places to eat, and you are just 45 minutes from Traverse City!
What do we need to bring for a stay in the Kamper Kabins?
You need, sheets, blankets and pillows! Some coffee grounds and filters, good cheer, etc etc
Can we have dogs?
Of course! We ask that you keep them leashed, clean up after them, and dont leave them alone at your site!
Can we bring firewood from out of the camp?
No! Please dont transport firewood outside of your local area, here look at this the state of Michigan has made it illegal to transport firewood! Buy it local! Save our forests!
Are you full for July 4th, labor day or memorial weekend?
We very well might be, check facebook or give us a call! First come first serve and we fill up fast!
How far from Sleeping Bear National lakeshore?
Just a few miles up the road, 25 miles to the visitors center and just a lil' past that is the dune climb!
Will a boat fit on my site?
Yes! Well, in most cases yes. Most sites are 30 feet long, and wide enough to accommodate most fishing boats.
Do you have a pool?
Laaaaakkkkeeeeeee Michigan! It is gigantic!
Nope all of our sites have either power, or power and water.
Platte River State Forest Campground has rustic sites and is very nice!
